We started with the Learning Common just as COVID shut everything else down. They were able to pivot to Zoom classes with no issues and my son has benefited from continuing education during the pandemic. It hasn’t been that long; however, we are already seeing improvements in both his reading and his confidence. He really likes his teacher and approaches the classes with a positive attitude. We are very pleased!

My daughter has struggled with dyslexia and anxiety related to her learning disabilities for a number of years. Before we were introduced to the Learning Common my daughter approached reading with fear and found it difficult to connect with other teachers and tutors.

Since she’s been working with The Learning Common, I have seen big improvements in her reading and more importantly her confidence and attitude towards learning. What differentiates the Learning Common from other places we tried, is the investment they made in getting to know my daughter as an individual and as a learner. They have worked with us, her teachers and even her social worker to consider all her learning needs!

Because of the strong connection my daughter has with her tutor Martha, she can be vulnerable and isn’t afraid of making mistakes, concerns which previously held her back from progressing and meeting her full potential. I am amazed by the progress my daughter has already made in the past year and that she continues to make!

Learning is not fun when it is difficult and thanks to the patience and kindness at the Learning Common, my daughter is closing the gap in her learning and gaining her self-confidence back. For me, this is priceless.

Our son’s ability to read has steadily improved thanks to The Learning Common. He is eight years old with ADHD and an LD with impairment in reading. Jessica’s makes learning fun and encouraging every week. After seven months with TLC (and counting), I’m amazed by our son’s willingness to participate not to mention the essential progress he’s making.

The tutors are wonderful and have a way of connecting with kids and getting them to engage and want to learn. We’ve had success with our daughter, and recently started Learning common with our son, who is in grade five, after his school teacher said he refuses to write even one line in class. Night one with Karen - he wrote a whole page! The tutors engage the children in the learning process which is so important to their success.

Robyn and her team have been amazing with our son. His reading and writing have improved greatly over the past year and helped him to progress well. Great team to work with.

My daughter recently transferred from the French Immersion Program into the English stream at her school and needed to get caught up on her English spelling and writing. The Orton-Gillingham program is working great for my daughter and Robyn’s relaxed teaching style and sense of humour really fit perfectly with her personality. We highly recommend The Learning Common!

I can’t say enough positive things about Robyn and The Learning Common. She has worked with my son, using the OG method, for the past year . When they began working together he was reading well below grade level , hated reading passionately and was totally opposed to and defiant regarding tutoring . Robyn has worked wonders with him, totally ‘gets’ him- and most importantly has made him much more confident and positive

”Having worked with TLC since April of this year I can not say enough positives about the experience. Our son has benefitted massively from the amazing support and care that his tutors have provided for him. We had been with another tutor organization for two years before this and the results with TLC were leaps and bounds ahead of the other company. Thank you TLC for such an amazing service!”

We are so fortunate to have found our OG tutor at The Learning Common. Karen is so committed, and she balances instruction and fun perfectly. My son never hesitates to join the calls with Karen which she conveniently provides early mornings before school. My son has come so far with Karen we are truly thankful and now hopeful he will be able to fulfil his goals. I am also so amazed at all The Learning Common has achieved over the years, and especially this past year. Even with the pandemic, you are doing so much for literacy in our city. Congratulations on a great year! I highly recommend The Learning Common to anyone wo has a child struggling with reading and writing. It is a challenge that can be overcome and managed with the right resources, and TLC provides that.

Both of my children have received tutoring at The Learning Common for reading and math. They started out in person but because of COVID needed to transition to online learning. I was worried the sessions would be less creative and engaging for them but both tutors rose to the occasion and created fun and challenging games, interesting and appropriate videos to explain concepts, and direct instruction. Thank you to Jessica, Hannah, and Ashley.

We have spent thousands and even sent our son to a different school for a year – nothing has had as big of impact on his reading, writing and overall confidence than The Learning Common. Amazing program!!

My daughter has been going to The Learning Common for almost a year now and we have had a great experience! My daughter’s tutor Ashley is patient and makes learning so much fun. My daughter loves going to tutoring. We have seen a big improvement in her reading and writing skills. She is also overall more confidence in her language skills.

I highly recommend this facility! The Learning Common is appropriately referred to in our household as ‘TLC’. The TLC that the staff have shown has helped my child flourish in school. The environment is conducive to my child’s needs and he has thrived in the relatively short time that he has been working with his instructor!

I am very pleased with the tutoring services for my children. My children have progressed in their spelling and reading and are not making the same common mistakes they used to prior to working with our tutor at The Learning Common. They are much more confident in their work!
Thank you very much!!!!!!

I have been taking classes at The Learning Common for the last year. When I came to Canada 20 years ago, I focused on my speaking skills, but I started to realize that reading and writing are incredibly important these days. The classes are very engaging, and my teacher always works around my schedule. I have seen an improvement in my reading, writing, and vocabulary. I now know how to use the word ‘archaic’. I would definitely recommend this learning centre to people who want to improve their language skills!

I would recommend The Learning Common to anyone who has a child who is struggling to learn how to read. Our son tried so hard with us, with other tutors, and teachers at school, but still after grade one he couldn’t read at grade level. We tried other methods/tutors/techniques before finding Robin here. The strategies she used effectively taught him how to read, and changed our child’s self confidence and his entire outlook on school. He started in grade two and went for three years. Now we have to yell at him to “turn your light out and stop reading-it’s 11pm-go to bed!” The change is truly remarkable. He is now in grade six and doing really well in all subjects, especially language arts. I can’t say enough good things about Robin. She makes it fun for the kids but is definitely no pushover-she’s patient and extremely well organized-the homework she sends home is totally manageable and targeted towards that particular student. I’d give this place ten stars if I could!!!

Our son has been working with Karen prior to Covid19 , with the start our virtual learning we added our second son to help with reading and literacy. Both boys love their time with Karen. The activities and games are very engaging. Our youngest son who started with TLC because he was behind in reading has come leaps and bounds. Thank you to Karen for everything!
We would highly recommend The Learning Common to others.
