Passionate Learners

Our ethos is to help our students rediscover the joy of learning. We take them from “school is boring” to “I can’t wait for Monday!”.

Collaborative

Our peer-to-peer approach allows students to learn from each other, through healthy communication and by building things together.

Problems in the traditional education system

Ontario’s current education system has an continually growing number of deep seated issues preventing unique learners from advancing:

  • Lack of training and resources for learners with exceptionalities leaving them unprepared for the high school classroom

  • Political unrest has led to infighting among teachers, administrators, and the Ministry

  • Limited resources have made adaptability and innovation impossible for such a huge institution

  • Large class sizes with a one-size-fits-all approach doesn’t cater to students’ individual strengths

  • Out-dated curriculum that’s not relevant for the changing marketplace

  • Lack of community and empathy which breeds competition vs. collaboration

But with a little TLC…

The Learning Common is prepared with effective solutions that cater to unique learners, propelling not only their success in the classroom but also in life:

  • Small class sizes

  • Expertise and specialization in Reading and Math

  • Innovative teaching methods that are grounded in proven and effective strategies

  • Progressive curriculum that’s relevant to today’s changing society

  • Collaborative and compassionate team that is dedicated to offering 360° support to each of our learners

Reflection

Sending our daughter to The Learning Common has been the best decision we have made in regards to her education. She loves going to school everyday! The teachers at TLC are engaging, patient and kind. The small size of the school allows for a lower student to teacher ratio, ensuring students get the attention they need while building their confidence to ask questions and participate in class discussions.

Words From Our Community

This is our first year with TLC, but it has already been life changing for our family. The boys are absolutely thriving because the creative, responsive and empathic staff understand how to teach children with learning disabilities. They are actually excited to attend school, have more self-confidence, and demonstrate better behaviour in the short time they have been with TLC. The stress level for us parents has also dropped significantly now that the boys are appropriately supported - even virtual learning was painless!
