TLC provides one-to-one Literacy Tutoring based on the Orton-Gillingham based methodology, targeted at remediation for students who struggle to read, write and spell.
Following the Orton-Gillingham Approach, TLC tutors teach your child all the important mechanics of literacy success- phonology, morphology, syllabication, spelling rules, and writing strategies. The goal of this multi-sensory approach is to improve a student’s reading, writing and spelling skills so that they feel confident and successful.
Orton-Gillingham is a learner-centred literacy approach that targets every human’s three major areas of processing: visual, auditory, and kinesthetic/tactile. Our tutors build multi-sensory components into each lesson and make sure to accommodate the different learning styles of our students.
All our literacy experts are trained Orton-Gillingham instructors and specialize in this successful remedial approach.
How It Works
We start with a brief (and free of charge) introductory call with you as a parent to understand your situation and suggest the right tutoring approach.
If you decide to move forward with TLC tutoring, we will match your child with one of our tutors based on their individual needs and learning style.
Each tutor will:
assess your child’s specific literacy levels and remedial needs
identify their strengths and weaknesses
create a customized plan of action that meets the needs of your child
work with your child in 1:1 tutoring sessions
Virtual tutoring sessions are available for students anywhere in Canada and the United States.

Intensive Reading Recovery
For students who need an extra boost in their literacy journey, We offer an intensive reading recovery course. This intensive course runs for one week and includes a literacy assessment, 25 hours of one-to-one Orton Gillingham remediation with a TLC teacher, and an additional 9 hours of follow-up time with their tutor. During this “maintenance time”, students will work with their teacher to make sure all learning objectives are solidified.
Our Intensive Course is only offered in-person in Toronto, Canada.

Math Support
Math isn’t just about numbers and formulas on paper. It’s found in the world around us, and we use it in various ways every day.
At TLC we provide one-to-one Orton Gillingham based math tutoring for students.
Our experienced teachers think about math from different perspectives and that’s exactly how they teach it. They use tools and strategies to bring math to life and help students understand how mathematical concepts can fit into both the real world and the classroom.
Our one to one math tutors cater to the needs of each student and makes them feel confident and positive in their math skills.
